Our history begins with the treatise written by Don Hipólito Bañuelos in 1846, the first manuscript, that we know of, on the treatment and quality of wines to be sold in markets across the ocean.
Consejo de la Alta
We are the family legacy left by Don Hipólito, linchpin and starting point of our history, consisting of years of know-how, innovative spirit, search for new contributions, quality assurance and what we know that we do. Hipólito was a hard worker with a fighting spirit. He started in 1835, working by himself. By 1841, he had a small team helping him with his vineyards. In 1844, he set up a small cellar to make his own wine. In 1846, his entrepreneurial, tenacious, hard-working, adventurous spirit led him to explore different blends and vinifications that would allow his wines to be shipped to other countries; a truly amazing feat for the times.
Our vines are 35 years old on average, planted on clay-limestone soils with gravel. Plantation density is about 4,000 vines per hectare. Our main variety is Tempranillo, Spain’s star grape, which attains its highest expression precisely in this area. Mazuelo, Garnacha, Graciano, Viura and Chardonnay complete our range of grape varieties.
WINES OF THE HIGHEST QUALIT
The Winery’s main goal is to make top-quality wines. The grapes are selected by hand and subjected to a cold soak before fermenting in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine is aged in ozone-sanitised French barrels. In addition, a team of reputed professionals permanently monitor our wines to ensure the utmost quality in the market./p>
